Sweet, thanks James, likely I'll be in on Sat morning. You guys have engine cleaner in stock also? Cheers - I'm Jim btw.

Filter wise I've got a K&N lined up at this stage, had one previously on another car and was very happy with the life etc out of it...HKS seems to be pretty popular on here!

oiled k&n filter will shorten the life of your afm, been a problem for many years which is why people stick to dry filters if the stock afm is still present

big ups to james for helping me out today, thanks again mate

ahhhhhhhh, I see, that does make sense. Does that make the dry filters easily cleanable, or do they need to be replaced regularly? Sorry if this has been covered in previous threads...

yeah when you get it serviced just take the filter out & tap the dirt off it and put it back in, well i believe thats what you do with the apexi ones, can even blow if clean with compressed air (from the clean side outwards obviously)

ahh righteo...thanks. Just to jump back on the K&N story...how could they be such a prominent brand if they cause so many problems for AFMs? Is that reputation possibly a symptom of consumers unknowingly over-oiling the filter after they've cleaned it? I only suggest that as my previous car had one and it never ever had issues with the AFM, and the filter was in there for about 5yrs...

From reading many posts on here, some people hate them, and some dont mind. From what I can gather, as long as you dont over oil them after you clean them, you should be alright. My gc8 has had one on since before I bought it, and thats over 30k's at least, and I havent had a problem. I do give my AFM a bit of a clean with some electrical contact cleaner though every service just in case.
