50000km service
My car is due for it's 50000km service, and was wondering if i could get advice wether to get it done by subaru or do it through someone like Maximum Motorsports or Racetorque. I got quotes from all three and the price varies alot for the same service, it goes from $550 up to $800. For the price difference would there be much difference in the services?

50 000km service 07 sti
my brother was actually in the same position and has a 50 000km service on his 07 sti coming up. i have a friend who works for the city ford dealership and can do the service around $500 and thats with all the top oils and thats fairly cheap. although i am only going to do a minor service for $155 for now with all top oils and do the 50 in another 7.500km.. i am pretty sure all the other places are much more as i have looked into it a fair bit.

Do you still have a warranty?
Whilst you don't have to, getting serviced at a dealer makes any warranty claims easier. Although you do pay the tax for it. Otherwise, check that all the workshops are quoting for the same work and pick the cheapest/one that gives you the best feeling all will be done correctly. Any of the Subaru workshops in the workshop sticky thread will do a good job.

It's actually illegal for a dealer to void your warranty if you get your car serviced elsewhere.
As long as the workshop you use is MTA Approved, you're going to be fine should a warranty claim arise. |

Yeh the friend at ford can stamp your logbook and everything and the service is done at the ford dealer.. It's just I have been given prices of 250 for a minor service and I thought this was too much.. That's from a few performance shops.. So 155 with synthetic oils and everything is fairly cheap.. Same as for the major around 500.

Like I said, it just makes it easier should you require warranty.
Last thing you would want is a workshop putting in a slightly different grade of oil, skipping a step or something trivial causing you an issue later on. The main thing is to check that each workshop is performing the same service.

Oh of course.. it needs to be factory logbook specification otherwise you've not got a leg to stand on.
Any MTA workshop should know how to read a logbook and do the correct service though, especially one of the main Subaru ones in Perth (RMS, RT, MMS, ASG, STechnic). |

with big stuff like motors, gearbox's etc we have to ask for approval before going ahead, and 9 times out of 10 they come out to inspect it and go from there |

Yeh true you wouldn't want a cheap job done.. But I had a good look in to the oils being used and it's all same as performance shops.. Same oils they use in the fpv cars.. I'm pretty sure it was the top range castrol synthetic.. He can do the cheap minor for 99 but with the top oils 55 extra..

For reference, I just paid $600 for the 50k service at Melville Subaru BUT I supplied my own motor oil (Mobil 1 fully syn 5/30W).
