NO BECAUSE IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY! They are weaker than a 257 and that's saying something. If you want to waste your money that's your choice but you will get flamed for stupidity!

given the spate of failing 207's this may well be a smarter long term decision. Best of luck with it.

Keep the personal attacks on the down low guys, its a forum not facebook. Some of you bitches seriously have orifice bleeding issues........

DJDINO rebuilt his ej205 and made about 280hp or something like that. It can be done and its still ok but the reason people go with a 207 is because of the bores having more strength. The 205 is an open deck block so the bores are sort of floating almost. They can go out of round and be weak at high boost and power.

Agreed

Back to the 257 anyhow.

I've been to ASG, and done the usual when first buying the car, exhuast intake tune, and I managed 270 on their dyno. I've got the suspension and tyre setup I want now and I'm happy with that. Driver training, well what can you do other than learn as you go. So what does that leave me to do? A little more power, coz honestly I dont feel mine is quite "lively" enough atm and I'd like a little more kick. Dont ask my why I had 250kw as a figure(maybe I am being unresonable), it just poped into my head and it sounded nice :P so I did the call around to the workshops and asked questions and they said with my budget they put this this and this (forge pistons, sleeves, cam blah blah blah) in it and itd be fine as long as I kept it sensible.

Then I saw this thread and apparently its a BIG no no

Im confused

Im at 270 with only $1000 spent, and I cant spent another $15-$20k to get a extra 60hp and retain my reliability? wtf

Paranoia building hahaha

257's dont like boost. 207's do. (Given obviously everything in proportion - Air, fuel, tune, ancillaries, etc).

You're always going to limited with the 257, UNLESS you spend big. No one is doubting it cant be done, it just comes down to what numbers do you want, and how deep are your pockets.

And I tend to agree, the rebuilding of an arguably 'weaker' block (205), does seem silly, unless youre looking towards 380-400hp+. But if you were going for more than this, it would most likely lead down the closed deck route, 2.2 - 2.3L etc etc... So the 207 shortblock is the goods sub 400.

The 207's have shown over time, 350+hp ath is quite a reasonable number. Right up to figures seen by Seans GC8...

Brent.

If you sleeve it and upgrade the pistons and bearings you should be ok. Bigger head studs etc. Esspecially if they do what was mentioned in the first post.

I dont think sleeving is really enough.. To get a reliable 257 it needs to be close decked then sleeved..

Totally agree! If I were building another 257 it would 100% be closed deck and then sleeved. It has been proven sleeving although it does add alot of strength it really isn't enough if you want a 'safe' build.
