New MY11 WRX Sedan - What mods first??
Hi All
New dude here. I did do a lot of searching first so be kind!! I couldnt find specific first off mods to do in way of suspension. Ive read that understeer is a drama, a rear sway bar would fix this?? I was thinking a Whiteline 22mm adjustable and king springs/alignment. This ok to start with? Power wise, Ive ordered a PW TMIC and tried to get a TurboXS TBE but theyve run out of down pipes. So am looking around for something similar. I like the look of the quad pipes but no one is doing them yet (to my knowledge) I only want to buy something once so am trying to get the best to start with, keeping wife under control and in the dark at the same time!! When I get a TBE will take it into ASG to get verso. Ive also read that CAI is not needed/can cause grief. Im aiming at 300whp but driveable and reliable. Any definitive advice would be appreciated. |

Firstly welcome to Perth-WRX, please enjoy your stay!
I'm currently looking at overhauling the suspension & handling side of my wrx at the moment. This is what I'll be getting done asap.
Depending on the size of the sway bars you go for, you might want to look into upgrading your stabiliser links (end links). I did the same to my previous ride (MY08wrx) without the coilovers and found it made a huge difference to the way the car handled. The rolling found when cornering was substantially reduced and the car was much firmer, but not too firm that it would be too uncomfortable. NAISOC has a good FAQ on modifying your suspension, you can find it here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=swaybar+faq

Thanks for the reply.
Would it be ok to run the car for a week or so with the TBE without a tune? TurboXS got their new stock in and Im getting one sent over this week. So will get that on this weekend with the new TMIC. |

You might be able also to get someone to modify the rear muffler on the Turbo excess exhaust. Get them to cut the 2 tips off and go into 4. Maybe chuck some pics up of one and see who would give it ago. I might be able to help out being a machinist/welder. As for installing stuff before a tune. I wouldnt. Not on the new cars. They can run lean. |

+1 for keeping the stock twin pipe look, this is what I will be doing when the time comes. Personally I wouldn't risk running around without a tune, just sit the exhaust in storage until your ready for the tune to go ahead.

Norm butler is awesome, not only did I get a good performance gain (also from the the tune of course) but I still can't believe the sound my car makes. Gives me wood.

Thanks again, all good information. I think I'll just go a 24mm adjustable S/B for the rear to start with. Will it need an alignment after this is done?
Christ its gonna be hard to leave that shiny new exhaust in the shed before the tune!! Nic from ASG is not back till next week. Yeah, quad tips look sweet but cant find any yet and Im impatient so went ahead with TXS system. May get it modded down the track to improve aesthetics. Its the first turbo car Ive had, and I was quite impressed with its power the first couple of days, then as usual youre left wanting more. Ive had mostly LS1 HSV's and utes, the Subie build quality is a lot better. |

congrats on a great choice and purchase mate.
If it was me and I had a budget I would do as follows: 1. search for a flash tune option first, obviously verso or dare I say the company I used recently for the Foz. He has done and can do a flash tune over the net for you at a good price. PM if you want to discuss. 2. select a flash tune 3. do sway bar and links mod with wheel alignment. 4. coilovers (hsd) or lowering springs (whiteline, swifts, other jdm) 5. exhaust (spend extra and get a good set of boxes is my advice. The y pipe, mid pipe and dump can come later if your on a budget. 6. tmic mod 7. more tuning with upgraded boost control solenoid 8. your ready for bigger rims and rubber 9. upgrade brake pads, rotors and fluid. 10. there are some easy cosmetic mods
