E85 useage rate is way different to pump fuel.

You said earlier how much would it go on e85, didnt realise you meant a mix.

I reckon you will crank an extra 50hp out of it based on timing increases alone.

There are loads of Subaru’s in the US that have been running on E85 for years. They don't have any major issues from what I've seen. There is also a guy on rexnet "sti4david" running E85 in his 06 Sti making about 420awkW at about 30 psi.

Basic info on E85 is it requires about 30% more fuel to be injected to reach the same lambda(AFR) as normal fuel. It has a higher octane, allowing you to increase timing and it also has better intake air cooling effects (I read as you can keep your TMIC ).

I really want to give this stuff a go, all I need is about $550 for a 200l drum of it and I can tune it myself, or at least get it drivable to get to the dyno and they can then play with the timing.

You just have to be aware that if you put E85 into a Subaru tuned on normal fuel it won't run, due to requiring an additional 30% of fuel.

I'm going in for a tune on 15th November.. for fun, I'm going to try a 50:50 mix of fresh U98 and E85.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but at least in the safety of a dyno we can see if my injectors and fuel pump have enough head room.

Wheres the best place to pick up a 20L drum?

Joe, I hope you realise US octane ratings are totally different to ours, their 92 is like our 98.

Dont' know if it's the best place. But Race Fuels WA in Osborne Park sell CSR E85 in 20L drums for $70.

Check out their retail price list here

Yeah I know.. their 93 is slightly higher than our 98.

It makes the HP/Torque difference in that quote I found on NASIOC even more impressive!

only use sucrogen bioethanol and if you have to upgrade injectors try to only use injector dynamics ids replace all factory charcoal filters with ethanol grade units as after about 6months they will block up and untreated heat coated turbo housings will oxidise

dont waste your time on 50 50 mixes you would only consider doing a blend to achieve a 98 mix but straight e85 is around 109 ron which is the same as running a high price unleaded racing fuel.

once you get your head around the logistics and figure out usage it becomes second nature. if the budget stretches buying 4 drums at a time saves you over 75 per drum so its worth the initial outlay.

i wouldnt recommend running it everyday doing a 1000kms a week especially when refuelling is an issue as 60lts doesnt last long at all.

in the typhoon my avg fuel is around 29lts100kms thats avg flat out you can empty the tank in a heartbeat

Thanks Ramon.

Is the sucrogen type fuel the CSR brand that you can buy from RPW? I would have thought so.. CSR = sugar. Sucrogen, same same

We are going to try a 50:50 just to see how my injectors and pump handle it, and we'll go from there.. only because I've got 10 days before my tune to organise it, definitely not enough time to source injectors/resistors and fuel pump.

How about fuel line upgrades? Is that required or just heresay?

Also what do you mean about oxidised turbo housings?? is that only heat coated ones, or all?
