JVC KD-G245 - bet you wished you hadn't asked. I'm having trouble matching anything I Google up with the 'wire it to the yellow wire' advice.

2 red? According to the manual there's 2 yellow.

Black - To the metallic body or chassis of the car (Earth)
Red - To an accessory terminal in the fuse block (Or find an accessory in their somewhere that becomes live with ignition on eg ciggie lighter.
Yellow (x2)- To a live terminal in the fuse block connecting to the car battery
(bypassing the ignition switch) - constant 12 V.
Blue - To the automatic antenna if any (250 mA max.)
Blue with white stripe - To the remote lead of other equipment (Your model may not have this)

Thanks for that manual. The only one I could find was the sales pdf. Reading your post and looking at the wiring diagram I relooked at the wires and realised that some have been patched up with different colour leads and the joins covered with masking tape. The colour of the leads emerging out of the unit are red, yellow, white, grey, blue with white and blue with grey. These don't match the diagram. I will find that voltmeter tomorrow and test the reds and yellows at each end and test.

What sort of car is the wife's vehicle? Everyone has been concerned with the aftermarket unit but not asked about the car.

For example, many cars have the constant power wire that shares the same feed as the interior light. If the interior light was no longer working it may have indicated to a blown fuse that may have needed replacing.

I can't think of a single oem wiring harness that has matching colours to the aftermarket colour scheme. The semi-exception is that some vehicles have a short adaptor harness between the oem harness and the unit. But even many of these aren't an exact match.

It's a Honda Civic. The interior light is working on both always on and door open settings. I am assuming that if I can identify the red and yellow wires from the car I should have a good chance to fix this.

Well I tested the yellow from the stereo and it is receiving constant power. I guess the unit must be at fault. I give up.

random question, but is the deck stuck in demo mode?

sometimes if they are left like this they will not remember any of the settings and you have to reset them every time the ignition is switched off

I don't think so as it operates in all modes, fm, am and I can scan for stations and save (though these are not being retained).
