Parts are the killer with gearbox rebuilds, so expensive. Regarding the different oils, I just think that Redline is so overpriced! Syntrax is around half the price, and remember, no gear oil is going to stop teeth getting sheered off by abuse. You have to let the synchro do its job, most synchro's are damaged by people shifting to quickly, effectively beating the synchro

Some 5 speeds have an issue with the nut on the end of the main shaft coming loose also.
God forbid one of those 20 yr tech’s actually works on the car, instead of a 2nd year apprentice.

This will definitely be interesting. Subaru need to charge appropriately too.. I paid considerably less elsewhere for my 50K service.. (Almost half).

Regarding apprentices working on cars, can anyone on here seriously tell me that apprentices are not a vital part of any trade and workplace?

I would hope that they would be given jobs that are appropriate for their experience and skill level. Learning to carry out a service is part of the first year of the trade.

I agree with that! However i dont agree to seeing aprentices take modified cars for "test drives". That should be done by a senior tech always! Someone who knows you dont need to smoke it up to check the brakes....
