If he managed to tap the motor to let the window go up, motor is working fine. It will be the relay or switch not supplying the trigger for the motor, so he directly tiggered the motor to let the window go up.

OMG, did he try to sell you a motor?

Regards,
Mao

I can probably sort it out over the weekend if you are keen. I have a spare switch panel and I might even have a window regulator. As Mao says, if power is supplied to the motor and it goes up and down then the motor/regulator is fine.

Not always. Sometimes the brushes can stick, and if the motor is hit, the brush can move enough to make contact with the armature.

Hi,

He said the guy tapped the motor, which I interpreted that he tapped the wires to trigger the motor up.

Anyway, that's the impression both me and GX-REX got.

Hey guys,

I'll go into more detail about what happened at the dealership:

When i say "tap" i mean physically tap lol. He took off the door trim...there was all this dynamat in the way so he couldn't pull the motor out. I actually saw him hold the button for the window up and hit the panel near where the motor resides with a screwdriver, and then the window went up....

I had asked him to try sending 12V to it earlier, but he wouldn't do that because he said it would fry the brant hahahah.....

So yeah to reiterate, he actually gave the motor a bump with a screw driver....i'm guessing the motor had some leftover energy stored in there? Does it even work that way?

Does any of this make sense? Thought i'd explain it as best I can so you can point me in the right direction....

I'd like to sort it asap but really wanna narrow it down more before wasting anyone's time...i called two reputable workshops today...got two completely different answers....

No energy stored in there though. He must've 'tapped the motor' LOL and pressed the pwr window switch.

Brant will not fry triggering the power windows, but yes,

White RX and your nissan guy is on the right track dude, chg the motor.

Have a great weekend.

If thats the case, possibly a blast of compressed air to the motor. It is possible that dust has settled in there and it just needs to be blown out to make a good contact.

Hey,

Had a look today and the window is working fine again....made it go up and down about 10 times....

Switch is a bit dodgy though....i can make it "click" and activate it without actually moving the switch.....

I guess i'll have to monitor it....

Thanks for your help guys....hopefully it stays working

WTF.....I point to the switch and then you point to the motor, I point to the motor, you point back to the switch.

LOL, hrmmm.. now you can 'tap' both the switch and the motor too.

Just get GX REX to put his spare switch in and check it out for u if he is free.

Just glad it has all worked out for you. Have a good weekend.

Too hard to diagnose an intermittent electrical fault on the internet.
I have a right hand front door motor I bought from the wreckers for a customer who didn't show, let me know if it does it again and we'll look into the cause.
When you phoned on Friday it was right on rush hour and Dave had customers left-right and centre, he may not have been able to give you the full run down on all possible scenarios.
I would think that the brushes in the motor are worn or stuck, hence the shock of a sharp tap the the motor body dislodges them and they work again for a while. Same thing works on starter motors in an emergency.
