Hi mate,
Just a quick update. I ended up spending a good few days testing everything - tried grounding everything to everything, jumpered my car to a statesman to make sure the voltage was high enough - checked impedance of heaps of different things - continuity tests - checked ECU connections etc - still no joy. Went back to basics and thought other than the physical COPs, what has changed? Came to the conclusion the only 2 changes are that the ignitor is now being bypassed, and that the ground for the COPs is now going to the engine. Checked the resistance from the car to the 5th terminal on the ignitor (ground) and there is actually some resistance which tells me theres something in the middle and its not a full ground. Next i pulled all of the COP grounds off the engine, linked them all together and connected them to the ground of the old ignitor - its now working perfectly! have been driving for about a week and its amazing - no bucking and its sooooo smooth - no slightly rough idle - nothing. Anyways ive been leaving it a week to make sure the issue is fixed and now this weekend i will pull the loom apart and re-wire it with the ground included and run it back to the ignitor. Ill also post photos and stuff here for anyone else who wants to make the change to COPs on a aussie MY98 WRX. Thanks so much for your help mate - your steered me in the right direction now its working perfect Rich |

Hey Rich,
I have been reading this thread, & just wanted to say well done on getting things sorted. More importantly, well done for coming back & telling everyone what the problem was. Make sure you get the photos up for future reference

Poor factory earthing is a known issue on gc chassis'. My car had 'antilag' at one stage due to a poor earth under the dash causing the a/c to feedback somewhere.
Glad you found it buddy, always happy to help!

Hi guys,
OK here goes... Ive got pictures and drawn up a diagram of the loom wiring from the existing plug which used to plug into the single coilpack, to the 4 separate COPs running in a wasted spark configuration. My car is an Australian MY98 WRX and the new COPs are Diamond FK0140's from a Liberty B4 EJ20 Twin Turbo (EJ206 or EJ208) with dwell times of 3ms. The old coilpack that i replaced is a Diamond F-569. I have attached 5 pictures to this post : 1) COP wiring diagram with all COPs, original connector, and original igniter 2) photo of the modified original igniter (butchered but working) with pin numbers that i have used in the diagram 3) photo of the original plug which connected to the single coilpack 4) photo of the new COPs and the pin numbers ive used 5) photo of the finished loom The pin numbers i have used in my diagrams are not nessecerily the actual pin numbers and are not a direct reference to the workshop manual, i have just used them to easily show which pins need to connect to what. Anyways i hope this helps someone - email me on scooby_001@hotmail.com if you've got any questions and ill try return Rossco's favor Now its time to embark on my next mod.... converting from a 98 stepper IACV (currently separated from the intake manifold) to a 04 stepper IACV (integrated into the throttle body) - if anyone has any pointers let me know Thanks heaps for your help guys Rich |

Hello - I need to do the same conversion but am using diamond coil on plugs . I don't think they have integrated. Igniters . How would I wire a separate ignition module in ?

Why not just use the ones rossco used?
Going to be hard to answer because Ross has sold his car.

A bit late to the game with this but.... do the new plugs just sit there in the holes? Or, do they screw into the valve cover? I haven't taken a close look at my engine, but I thought the 99-00 engine didn't have holes to screw a coil in.

Thread bump!
Any idea what these coil on plugs are from, in terms of replacement, or failing that, will any replacement coil on plug be alright to use? Thank Alex
