Hi Ross,

Im hoping you can help me. Ive got a similar setup to you where ive got a GC8 in which ive dropped a new engine, upgraded to a PowerFC and going through the tuning process. Our setup differs where ive got a EJ20TT from a Liberty B4 and ive converted it to the stock WRX single turbo setup. Heres the details - as you can imagine it looks a lot different now but the stoopid coil pack is the same :

http://www.scoobymods.com/dropping-2...win-t9802.html

Anyways im about to upgrade my coil packs to FK0140's from the EJ20TT (ive made the loom and everything is soldered and ready to go) but ive got no idea about setting the dwell times. I know my new coil packs have a dwell of 3ms but i have no idea how that relates to voltage, and also how it translates to crank angles??? Ive attached my current dwell settings which are the default EJ20K ones so they should be fine for the current single coil pack setup, but im wondering if could you please let me know what you changed yours to and how you worked it out?

Thanks heaps
Rich

Classy job there Ross. I gotta say, changing to coil ons is definitely better than comtinuing to use leads. Although when I did mine it was the entire loom but the ignition side looks same same.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your help Rossco on this previously. Ive now completed the conversion - installed my loom and it was spluttering like crazy but zeroed it down to 2 dead coils - got replacements from US (same model numbers) and it runs great now - ive just got 1 kinda major problem.... When im driving normally its usually fine but when i turn on the aircon, it basically bunnyhops - at first i thought it was a problem coil but it seems like its complete ignition cut for a split second at a time, not just a single coil - i think its way too intense to be just a single coil. When ive got the aircon on and its idling its fine, it just happens when i accelerate (even in neutral) once i pass about 1600rpm it starts doing it. I thought it maybe the extra load the aircon is putting on the engine but it doesnt happen normally when im going up hills so i guess it cancels that theory out. Ive tried to also cancel out the following :

- voltage drop - replaced battery but also tested the load voltage across the battery and its only about .08v difference between aircon on and aircon off at 1700rpm - both sit about 13.8v
- tried adjusting the IGN vs Bat and Dwell vs RPM settings temporarily but no difference
- Reset the PowerFC to defaults and went through the initial setup process but still did it after that which cancels out any tuning issues

It sometimes happens when the aircon is off but very rarely - whatever is causing it, the aircon being turned on is increasing it - Right now im pretty much out of ideas - as far as im aware the only things that change when the aircon is on is the extra load on the engine and a little bit of extra voltage drain - is there anything else?

Hope someone out there can help cus summer in oz sucks without aircon as you probably know

Thanks
Rich

Dwell settings in the dwell v rpm need to be set for 5ms dwell at all rpms.

Try these values & let me know how you go:

RPM Dwell Adjustment
10000 300
8000 240
4000 120
2000 60
1000 30
480 14

If you have the black COP's then use these dwell angles:

RPM Dwell Adjustment
10000 180
8000 144
4000 72
2000 36
1000 18
480 9

Hi Mate,

I tried the 3ms settings and unfortunately no go - the car starts quicker and feels a little better but still got the same issues. For the hell of it i tried the 5ms settings but same still so reverted to the 3ms ones as they should be perfect for my COPs.

The issue only seems to appear between 1600 and 2500 rpm but considering thats standard driving rpms its a bit of a killer. Is there anything else you could think of?

Thanks again
Rich
