ooo not too sure on life changing but it is different to a point

not worth the hassle imo $$$ wise vs gains imo, with the shit you have to source do and its not readily available

biggest attraction to me was the TS exhaust note, sounds dardy on my current setup but will be a lot better on a proper TBE once its in

rotated GT28r or TD06-20G or a BBK TD05-20g

Remembering that Chris has a factory twin scroll in his Spec C Type RA...

That would be very, very different to the run of the mill STi's we get over here.

Converting, sure you can get better power out of other turbos which is what most of us want, but for a factory style setup, emulating the Type RA's is the goal imo.

Hunt for a vf42... twin scroll with more up top than the 36/37... I personally would go for a quicker spool, had a FP green and went to a vf34 on my previous car and preferred it, heaps more fun around the streets.. even though that kick in the ass at 4-4500 was great.. have you had a lag monster before?? cant wait to see how the vf36 goes on my gc8..

Thanks for the info.

There's someone in Aus who trialed the BW EFR on another car and their results are detailed below.

"I've managed to run both the 6258 and 6758 on the car using the mid actuator and a 0.64A/R rear housing. I can 100% back up the need for the high pressure actuator as it is definitely blowing open at 10-11psi.

Anyway, the car made At The Wheels 367hp on the 6258 and 380hp on the 6758. Given the transmission losses that approx. 440hp and 460hp at the flywheel respectively (estimated from roll down tests. I know its not 100% but it does almost line up with the flow rates of the EFR turbos).

The car had previously run a GT2860RS and a GT2871R and the difference to the EFR turbos is night and day, even with the actuator issue (parts on the way to fix that one too) with the EFR's mush more responsive and certainly quicker in gear."

the reference to the responsivenes of the EFR being night and day over the GT2871, is what was leading me towards maybe getting one of these.

250 is just a figure that i think would be easily achievable, with a new turbo, given I am making 200ATW on a 200,000kms old turbo still without a tune.

are the billett wheeled turbo's any better? and if so which ones?

I am running my car currently on the STI RA ECU, with the original VF28 up to 1.4 - 1.5 Bar, and that's hitting around 200 ATW. I have the close ratio Spec C gearbox, so lag is not really an issue given how quick I have to go through the gears. Transient response would have a much greater effect on my speed on the tracks, than the lag which I would never really see on the track.

This 200kW untuned... What dyno, what gear etc was this on? How are you upping the boost on stock ecu (boost tee or something else)?

What ecu do you plan on running to make use of the new engine and turbo? Stock ecu can't do this.

As before what is the intended goal of the build? Drags, Wanneroo?

You say you have a spec c gearbox... Is this a 6 speed? Or the factory V6 5 speed? If it is the 5 speed, what gear set are you planning on running to suit 350-400hp?

Just throwing it out there that there is a lot more to consider than just a turbo.

hill climb, super sprint, odd stuff. time attack maybe

The 200 ATW was on a mainland dyno, the car has run a 12.55 1/4 in that trim, which was 1.2 bar with AVCR, 3" exhaust and the rest was version 6 STI RA.

Its has a 6 speed spec C gearbox now

just want to get more torque, more response, and more power.I Don't care about the dyno reading. I will end up getting more displacement later, but at the moment I feel the engine, is ready for a new turbo + my computer I have sitting in the garage.

I have a power FC that I plan on running, was going to decap my yellowtops, install the PFC, then get it tuned with the new turbo installed.

Already have parallel fuel rail mods, stock regulator, intake, exhaust - which will need to be mod'd for the new turbo probably. GRB TMIC, Spray, bigger bonnet scoop, phenolic spacers. COP conversion 11mm ARP, recond heads, recond bottom end.

TD06-20G is not bad on a 2.5. Full boost hits around 3750 - 4000. Would imagine it being a dog on a 2L. It does the job well running Barbs, etc, but would think twice if you're leaning toward skidpan or similar.

If I had my time again, it would be the TD05. But at the end of the day, it's your car and goals, so your choice.

Good luck.
