Default Time for upgrades - need advice ! 08 betty

hello fellow Pwrx 's

its that time of year where my 'granny' 08 betty needs some HP pumped into it

unfortunately i missed out on American Daves sale of the vf52 as i was a little slow sending a response so im now looking for an alternative to get me up to 320 wheel HP.

im thinking ;
Deutchwerks 650 / 750cc injectors not sure top or side feed ??? help
walbro FP 255lpm
possibly still a IHI vf 52 or Blouch 380xt or AMR CXR500 possibly even the Tomioka TD06-20G

im happy to scarifice a bit of spool up for some good gains... but i need opinions of whats recommended as this is my first turbo upgrade. Looking for direct bolt on.

my supporting mods are;

PW tmic
custom tbe
cai
ecutek type 3 open
GFB bov
cusco occ

Cheers - plan on having this done by the end of Febuary

looking at getting it all imported from importimage...

Dan

Dan I reckon you wait and see what the BBK-M does for me and Scary.
If their TD05-18G does what it says then you should buy one one too. The VF52
is not the answer if you are going to upgrade turbos.
I am expecting to receive mine from Troy at Prospeed in a weeks time.

Agree with Dave on this one.
Going from the TD04 to the VF52 isn't a huge gain, would want to look at something else...

...something like this

Shane (aka monkeee) has a TD05-18G waiting to go on his 06 wrx (2.5L).
Could wait a bit and see what results he gets with that turbo and some more supporting mods.

Ok sweet, i looked for the - M but i couldnt find it....only the -L

do you think injectors and fuel pump are a must also ?

im not right in the know of the in n outs of turbos etc... the 7cm /8cm and in some cases the 10cm, exhaust housing is confusing me a heap. so much research to be read..
was even considering the gt3071 series.... il wait and see for your results.

320hp (non-American fantasy hp) at the hubs (in 4th gear) on stock internals ain't gonna happen.

What will follow will be:

woo hoo! for 1 month......

Dok Dok DOk...Oh dear!

Why did my motor dok?

How much money to make a 2.5 reliable with 320hp at the hubs?

why can't a 2.5 handle 300hp at the hubs reliably?

You are asking for ~ 400hp at the crank to make 320hp at the hubs....Big ask for a stock ej255.

Rossco,

what in your opinion is 'non fantasy' then ?

i got 272 in a 3rd gear pull which obviously isnt as great as it looks on paper but its still a bit of power...

would 290 in 4th gear pull be more realistic ?

.......cheers soksta

brembo, 6 speed, 207

just saying.
honestly though, dont chase numbers. its so all over place and inconsistant as it will be different from dyno to dyno, day to day, gears etc.

As Tony said, Ive got a Blouch snail going on mine soon-ish.

A.Dave is on the money. Go the TD05-18G (with an 8cm housing) will be a nice upgrade over the TD04 (or so I am praying to god it will be for myself too haha).

Only one change to the support mods is I am sticking with my cut OEM resonator (chopped off the bottom and sealed it up), OEM airbox and STI high flow filter as opposed to an intake to retain response and low-down torque.

My excuse for a potential blown EJ255 (as Tony knows) = EJ207 + 6spd swap. Done.

Good Luck

Fuel pump would be a definite. Sean @ ASG reckons the injectors wouldn't even be a problem at 300hp. Depending on whether your tuner offers the service or knows how, you could always get them decapped if they prove a restriction.
