5 speed shifter bushes
I did search "shifter bushes" but got lots of threads about 6 speed bushes for sale etc.
Currently my gear stick is sloppier than a brothel worker after the American sailor visit. I believe it is an ebay short shifter. (as per Corrie and his for sale ad) I presume its the bushes that have worn and allowed the sloppiness? Ideas on price/parts etc for resolution method would be appreciated before I accidentially miss a shift and implode a 5 speed. I suspect swapping back to a stock shifter and new bushes would be the go?

As Simon has linked, get the front and rear stay bushes (the rear is the blocky one at the bottom of Simon's link).
Even with my brand new car you can notice the difference when you replace them. Way more positive when you shift gears...... |

Yeah I just did front and rears on mine, huge difference and once the fronts are off its piss easy to do the rears too. I got Kartboy ones for $US30 for the front and $US35 for the rear.

Forward shift linkage under the car is most likely shot. Pretty sure yours will be a rivet type and not a bolt type TJ so the whole thing will have to be replaced. I've had the same problem for years with mine and have had my eye on this item from Turn In Concepts:

Mine has a return spring.
I know this because Corrie gave it to me... its in my ashtray. Hmmm perhaps that needs fitting before I know if the thing actually is flogged out.

You should get underneath and have a look first. Usually the bushes on the shift rod, eg, the little knuckle on top of the box, are the ones that wear out.

Install the return spring and see how it goes then. It already has kart boy front and rear bushes that are not that old. If it is still a bit sloppy, it will likely be the linkage.

Check the condition of the bushes at the link just under the shift boot inside the car. Mine had the same problem, mine had deteriorated & these new bushes fixed it right up.

As mentioned there are a couple of options to check. I do know that the shift linkage bushes under the car usually about $15 to $20 each for a 5 speed.
