Erghhh.. Do I really need as BOV?
Ok so my car has no blow off valve at all, 2001 Bugeye WRX.
The last owner fitted a FMIC and decided that no BOV was the better option. It has a fantastic "Flutter" noise but in the long run I'm sure this isn't the best thing, heck Subaru fit one at the factory so surely it serves a purpose. What should I get? I'm not interested in the noise at all, the stock BOV on my GF8 was plenty. However I can't fit a stock valve on this one due to the lack of TMIC. Opinions on the Turbosmart Kompact plum-back BOV? Can pick them up for about $180 new. Tried a HKS full ATMO. Was loud and stuffed up the idle of my car - also created back firing and the car used even more fuel.

Pretty sure the boffins at Subaru would say yes.
Why do you need a Blow-off Valve (BOV)? To eliminate compressor surge when changing gears. Excessive backpressure is created when the throttle is closed during gear changes or deceleration, causing turbo cavitation. This is detrimental to the life of your turbocharger; however fitting a BOV will substantially improve this problem. By installing a BOV you will significantly reduce turbo spool up time. You will notice a substantial improvement in response from your turbo between gearshifts. Boost will come on earlier giving an increase in torque at lower RPM. I'm no expert though... (no sarcasm intended as I really am not an expert.)

A bov is advised to relieve pressure. Anything plumbed back should be a go for you. GFB have volume adjusting ones too if I remember correctly.

I've got a turbosmart Kompact plumb-back - never had any issues with it.

Have an HKS SSQV to suit. Was going to fit it to my bug but decided to stay with factory.
