Hey guys, so i've bought a WRX.... Sweet, time to do some work.

First thing i want to do is add some gauges so i can keep an eye on whats going on under the hood. I will deff be putting in a boost guage and oil pressure gauge, but what else? i have one spot left and don't know what to do with it. and i prefer to fill it with a gauge than a blank plate.

I have a pretty good idea on how to install the boost gauge and their are plenty of pics and walk throughs online. But im abit more confused about the oil pressure gauge. I really want to do this myself as it will help me understand my car better. So maybe if any of you guys could spare some time one weekend to help me that would be awsome. im pretty good on the tools (sparkie) and pick up things pretty fast so you wont be dealing with a brick.

Looking at purchasing Pro Sport Evo series gauges as i reckon they look pimp. But all those looks will count for nothing if they arent any good. So has anyone had any experience with them? Going to smash then into a dash mount pod that replaces the clock.

Oil Temp Gauge.
Water temp
Boost

Oil & Water are more useful if they have a user settable alarm.

Im not going to be doing any real hard driving or racing in this car so i ruled out needing a oil temp gauge. Water temp would be pretty useful as it would show me if i had any cooling system issues. Want a oil pressure gauge to show me if i have any leaks.

By the time you see a drop in oil pressure the damage is already done.....

With an oil temp gauge you will see a lift in oil temp when/if the oil gets low & you'll also learn how long it takes your engine to come up to normal operating temperature.

I've got volts, oil pressure, and water temp in mine, and I think the most useful of the 3 is the water temp. Actually lets you know when the car is up to normal operating temperature (verses cluster gauge which is a joke), and the gearbox seems to warm up around the same time the gauge starts giving a reading. Helps when you want to know how long to take it easy on the first trip of the day.

Ok i see your point. So if i get a oil temp over the pressure gauge should i still get the water temp gauge. Seems silly if i already have a gauge telling me the temprature of the engine to need one telling me temps of the water cooling it. Realy with the one gauge (oil temp) i can tell if theirs a cooling issue or oil pressure issue as you said. So im still at 2 gauges.

FYI Water temps come up WAY faster than oil temp.

Water temp comes up within 5 mins, oil temp around 10 mins.

They don't show you the same thing. Water temp is an external temperature, oil temp is an internal temperature.

Water temp can be 90 degrees whilst oil temp is 110 after a good run on boost & vice versa - oil temp can be 80 degrees whilst water temp is at 140 if a fan fails or your thermostat sticks shut.
