I get some compressor surge, I just power through it. Only really happens in 4th and 5th ramping up onto boost.

Been doing it on mine for years, makes no difference to anything, ignore it.

What about exhaust stains inside the heatshield where the wastegate shaft is?

Compressor surge is worth worrying about if its bad enough.

Being a Nissan driver (tut,tut!) I always get people asking about the noise my car makes from having no bov and asking if its dangerous.

Here are 2 vids I've found. The second one Is quite informative.

I cant see it being compressor surge though. It was making the noise when it was completely stock as a rock and is still doing it after i put the 3"tbe on, which has made it louder. Pretty sure subaru wouldnt have let their cars leave the factory with
Compressor surge issues. My noise is different to that and it only happens from about 1800rpm to 3000rpm. When accelrating and only when car is under load.

Yeh thats what i thought. Both uppipe gaskets have been replaced and the dump pipe gasket. Im all out of ideas.

Take it to a workshop and get them to check it on a hoist?
