You are probably 1 tooth off on the passenger side inlet cam...... that's the usual suspect!
You need a dial gauge to dial the cams in because usually cams come with a specific static timing in degrees (or mm of lift) that needs to be set correctly for the cams to work at their optimum timings. i.e zero the timing marks and advance the inlet cam until you have xxmm of lift on cylinder #1 - you can't measure the lift anywhere apart from directly at the valve bucket on that cylinder with a dial gauge.

You adjusted cam gears as per tuner !?
Who was the tuner ? By what you said, you never dialed the cams in correctly....that is done with a degree wheel on the crank and a valve position reference(dial gauge in cam bucket). ... so it sounds like you fucked something up during you belt change so check all that. What adjustments were you told to make on the cam wheels ? Who tuned it ? I am intrigued !

The cams were never dialled in ever like the method you said, only the valve clearances were checked and shims adjusted accordingly.., huh its running 200+ daily without any hichups? i am not an expert, can you point me in the right direction and ill get it done.
@Gt - like 1 degree this way 3 degrees another. I cannot remember exactly now.. he said it was bring the turbo in sooner.. Last edited by Dscott; 09-03-2014 at 11:02 PM. |

If you didn't dial the cams in why bother fitting adjustable cam wheels??
Can you post up a dyno sheet please? P.s I'm making 232Kw at the hubs and still running an STI top mount and tiny VF34/p18 - my cams are dialed in at 0 degrees all round.

Do a tooth count as per workshop manual and re-mark the belt - Dayco belts have incorrect markings.

how to dial in the cams? Are there any guides? and why would this cause it to run wrong now? did we do something wrong by taking the timing belt off?
I want to fix this this, and yes its never been done. (kind of freaking out now..) forget dyno sheets, max hp is @ 6000rpm with a very aggressive vertical ish power delivery. Last edited by Dscott; 09-03-2014 at 11:16 PM. |

You're keeping very tight-lipped about the tuner, aren't you?

p.s i am reading elsewhere they dont need to be dialed in and the tuner can adjust the cam gears by dyno.. so ho is this relevent to my problem lol
so what ill do is, reset the cam sprockets to 0 align everything and then reset the cam sprockets to what they were |
