When my up pipe heat shield was rattling it did the same thing, only on WOT and independent of revs. Sounded sort of tinny and like a scraping noise.

Gasket failure causing the tinny metalic noise?

Car has done 65000km, redline oil changed every 5000km, never used engine flush. It shouldnt be gasket, should it? I was thinking since I always used redline 10W40, would it too thick for DD? Hot idle oil pressure is 2.1bar, hot wot pressure is 7~7.5 bar. I do average sprint street driving.

Hey sounds just like the same thing that happened to mine. Weird intermittent rattle. Sounds there on full throttle. At first I thought it was some sort of heat shield rattle. Or worse a turbo. As the more I listened to it the more it sounded like a rotating noise.I found reving it quickly in neutral produced the same noise. Reving slowly did not.No power loss. I found that something in the flywheel area was hitting the little metal inspection cover near the cross member. (It's very hard to see and reach.) Only now and then. But while chasing the noise. I bent the cover back a little with a screw driver. Started it up and bang! Something few out of there! I suspect it was a stone or something. It's been going strong for 10 months. No noise. A Subaru tech' actually gave me a tip to look in that area after I already had. Could be a component failure, but what? I never found what flew out of there. Mine otherwise runs great for almost a year now.. Hope you get yours sorted.

65,000 sounds slightly below average k's for these problems, my turbo ticks, has for a while, car still pisses along.
my car started consuming oil like yours after a bad service (nice top up cunts). dry by the time i made to geraldton from perth and ive been topping it up ever since. my 257 was knocking back about 300ml a week on avg. sounds like general wear n tear. i've worried cartwheels about mine but all the mechanics say chill, its fine.

Not sure of the correct name for it. It's a very small and hard see area. Just above the cross member.

Update: compression test shows 130, 126, 126, 130 psi. So ringland should be fine. Tmic doesnt have much oil in it neither, but aos return line does. Will try 5w40 oil next time and check for loosing metal plate at the same time and turbo shaft while inlet hose changed.
