Coilovers and tuning
Let's bring out the scoob questions!
Searched extensively to try find an answer to this question, and nothing. So either everyone already knows the answer - or its a stupid question (the latter more likely) What's the go with coilovers in re. to retunes? Is it necessary to get a retune once they're installed? If so could someone give me a run down on the reason as to why? Cheers. |

Coilovers and retune?
Do you mean retune the engine after installng coilovers?. If the answer above is YES then the answer to your question is NO.

Two things that come to mind:
- springs settling in over time - fine tuning compression/rebound/etc to suit street driving/track/etc I know that lowering springs on OEM struts or replacement struts will settle in over time and may drop a few more mm, but I'm not too sure if this is the case with coilover springs. With the second point, I remember only adjusting the coilovers I had in my old car once or twice a year, mainly playing around with the rebound on bumpy roads. Most people might just set and forget if they were getting coilovers for street duties only.

Cheers guys, coilovers would be the only option for adjustable suspension correct?

Unless you plan on adjusting them regularly for track, coilovers are a waste of money in my opinion.
My KWv3's settled a further 5mm after install Soksta.

You can get aftermarket struts that have some form of adjustment, normally rebound only, Cusco (STI only) and Koni adjustable are two that come to mind. Thanks for that Nick, never noticed how much my 7kg springs settled down when I had them in the car.

So basically no point in going for coilovers for daily and occasional track fun? May aswell go shorter springs if I want to lower?

Some people install coilovers to allow substantially larger (ie wider, different offset) wheels to be fitted without issue. End of the day it comes down to what you want to achieve and how much money you are happy to spend to get there.

Fair enough, think I'll still go for coilovers. Would prefer s fully adjustable system and wider wheels would be a perk (didn't know they permitted that).

Do what I did. KW V3's for a daily.. 2 track days a year. Ruined my spine.
