Default Low idle/Fluctuation/Stall

Afternoon all,

First post in a long time, well I will start by saying the sti's still running great apart from a niggling little issue that I will get too in a minute. Motor hasn't consumed a drop of oil so far which is very nice to see and pulls like a train compared to the previous motor/tune.

As mentioned in one of my last posts upon receiving the car back, it seems to me that the idle is set a little on the low side (once at operating temp - around 500-600rpm) Sometimes it likes to hunt, other times it stalls out when coasting to a stop.

I have tried engaging the clutch at the very last second which doesn't seem to produce any solid results. The issue is so hit and miss I am finding it hard to diagnose. Some days it is sweet, others it stalls a few times. When turning the wheel trying to park it also sometimes stalls. It hates coasting to a stop in sport sharp more than sport.

Have gone over the usual vac/boost lines in the bay and all seem to have solid connections but can not confirm 100% without pressure/smoke testing them.

- Will resetting the ecu and doing a fuel re-learn net me any positive results as it was driven and run in by a different driver?

Any directions or advice is encouraged.

Cheers,

Shaun

EXACT same problem here dude, and despite copious amounts of hours spent on my car (12 hours at one workshop and regular visits to another), plus an entirely new tune.... it hasn't improved. On top of that, I get warm start problems.

I really don't think it's on the tune. I really do believe it's a sensor somewhere playing games. Is your car hard to start when you park it up for say 10 minutes, then start it again?

Nah not at all. Starts fine every single time.

I did note though when I got mine back that it was night and day a different car at the turn of the key. Idle always seemed like it was set lower and it sounded much less aggressive if that even makes any sense haha?

As much as it can be an inconvenience at least I know it's not leaning out when transitioning into boost like it was prior. I'm also getting like 100kms more out of a tank now too. I just look like a fkn noob who stalls it at lights or a round about from time to time... I guess I can live with that until I get it back down to Perth as I doubt very highly the motor is at risk.

Does yours have bigger injectors by any chance?

What did TMS say when you went back?

I'm going to get stuck into the bay this arvo and see what I can find. Will re-tighten all my hose clamps and relevant connections, clean maf and reset ecu. See if that does anything. Process of elimination and will start with the easy stuff first.

Before CPUs, those symptoms would be from idle mixture too lean -giving hunting. The very good fuel consumption is confirming evidence.
The fix would be to set a touch richer and higher idle RPM. Nowadays with CPUs it is not so easy, yes it may be a faulty sensor. This should be a problem a decent tuner/workshop would be able to fix.

Yeah Nauli, I'm sure it's nothing major. Hopefully I find something simple this arvo and that fixes my issue. If not, I will drive it down on the next trip I do to Perth. I seriously hate that drive haha!
