I didnt realise so many people here were running Motec........................ But yes, cars will idle higher when cold. Then settle to its tuned idle value once warm. (Be that 7/8/900rpm or whatever).

rev limiter ?? you mean it hits redline and then comes back down.
can someone please explain if there is another limiter other than the red line limiter.

This is for a Motec ECU.

Can't people remember manual chokes in cars?

Cold start, engine will rev harder. Revving it will open (or close, I forget ) the "choke" bringing revs down. Revs will drop when at operating temp.

Hunting idle on a stock ECU is not normal and should be checked by your favourite Subaru workshop.

Rev limiter is a value on your ecu (stock, motec, autronic, whatever) and does not necessarily line up with the red line on the tacho...

just a light "tap" on the gas pedal is all you need, reving a cold engine is not advisable,..mine starts at around 1700 a light tap on the pedal and it drops to 1000-900rpm...
