Yep yearly Lots of people there, gonna aim for a 1:45 next year. It's a tough course, there are some nasty hills in there towards the end.

Glad i did some solid training prior as it paid off.

Try 21 then !! It's not as hard as what i thought it was going to be, you just get in the zone and keep going. Just learn your pace real quick, don't try to be a hero and run beyond your limits and you'll get there.

That's the first time i've ran 21 straight out, in my training i went up to 15km. I wouldn't be keen to put my name down for the 42km full ... yet.

for those that lift.

what weight are you deadlifting? do you use your legs in your deadlift movement at all? and how many sets and reps do you work?

I've only just started doing dead lifts in the past two weeks. I have always shyed away as I was scared of hurting my back.

Currently weigh 72kg and am doing up to 80kg + bar. I bent my knees a bit but it's certainly not a full rang of movement. Doing 4 sets between 10-12.

Wanting to keep doing it though as I definitely felt it in my lower back a few days post training!

Previously I was only doing back extensions (weighted) for lower back so it's good to throw this in to the mix.

Just keep that arch in your back and don't round! Drop the weight if you're rounding

Remember the deadlift focuses mainly on your hamstrings and buttocks, but also works your abs and lower back. Its funny how many people think it’s primarily a back exercise.

Keep your back straight and abs tight, don’t lean back or move your neck. When lifting, visualize pushing your feet through the floor to work your legs thoroughly.

I’m 87kgs and deadlift 1RM of 130 now plus the bar. (5RM of 115 plus Bar) I have been lifting for over 2 years. Remember if you haven’t got proper form with this you can do yourself some real damage – so go and get an experienced instructor to analyse and help improve your technique – same goes for Squats and Bent Over Rows.

just seeing what people do... i have been deadlifting for quite a while..

the primary muscle the dead lift works is your lower back (keeping in mind i dont move my legs at all). however, it is a compound movement meaning it will work most of the muscles in your body.

josh it sounds like you keeping it nice and light just to protect your back and perfect your form which is a good way to go. congrats mate

Have you not heard off stiff leg deadlifts?

I 100% agree about form though! This is why I was always scared
