amnet ftw!

but it depends, you really need to be connected to an exchange which has equipment from your chosen ISP.

go to http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au smash in your phone number in the top left, and see who comes up in "current providers". this will give you an idea of not only which company to look at but also if they have space at the exchange for you. then head to broadband choice (Fobz's link) and go through all the plans for the providers that support ADSL2+ at the exchange, they will always work out cheaper than non-enabled providers.

we're in WA, choose from one of the big WA providers, iinet/westnet (same company but i believe the plans are still a little different) or Amnet

amnet pwns tho.

plus yes, depending on the age and model of your router you may need a new one, if you've been on adsl1 for a few years then most likely

have adsl2+ with amnet. i dont get as fast as i should(3mb-8mb) but i get that with every provider i have been with. Eftel, q-net and now amnet.
$59.95 a month will get you 10gb d/l on peak 15gb d/l off-peak(between 12am-7am). Then there is also peering(different story all together).
Also your modem makes a difference. I suggest invest money in that-my wirelss lets me down just a little

Never get wireless. If it doesnt have a cord i dont want to hear about it is my theory when dealing with my computer. The amount of drop outs and shit at gay times is unbelieveable. So stick with a cord, may look messy but least its a hard connection.

For $70 a month i get 24mb (max is 1.1 megabyte a second that ive seen) and 25gb download/upload i think. Thats on and off peak (different hours of the day) so when timed right can give me up to 50gb downloads.

typical customer response... its not a 24MB connection, its "up to" 24mb. speed varies with distance form the exchange, your dsl equipment, what other devices you have plugged in. look at the chart rich posted.

Cable Thickness plays the biggest part for the Attenuation loss over each km.
The amount of joins in the cable also affects the attenuation on the line.

Amnet FTW
Good Value Plans.

I've even got a spare ADSL2+ Modem here if you need to test.
Sometimes it also depends if there is space in your local Telstra exchange for your ADSL connection too.
