24Mbps - Unlikely unless you live inside the exchange.

Some people who even actually live next to it will get 18+

We're talking about the sync speed of your modem which will ultimately govern your link speed to the Internet.

ADSL2+ can potentially deliver up to 24Mbps/1Mbps

One of the hyped up ones going around at the moment is an AnnexM varient which can see 24Mbps/3Mbps (upstream improved).

ADSL1 is only 8Mbps/1Mbps, which is still plenty fast enough for a home DSL connection for cruising the net on.

Rough graph on speed delivery vs line distance.

One of the dudes on here who works for iiNet will probably also know about the little trial in Perth with the VDSL DSLAM delivering 50Mbps connections to a group of people in a small apartment block ..

im on adsl2+ iinet and i get 16mb down / 0.86mb up... its lots fast pretty happy with that result. No real point being on adsl1 its ... out of date.

interestingly that graph seems to say i should be able to get 20mb.... i might try ramping up the speed but i guess being totally stable at this speed is fine

edit: awesome just bumped up my speed to 19mb up and 1.02 down.. .see how stable it is.

Fobz will have a look at that..

Just seeing what plans people are on..

Im on adsl1 i think 512mb speed, so really slow compared to wots outthere atm. But happy with the speed and its unlimited. But im paying $60/month so know that im getting ripped off..

So dont mind dropping unlimited and getting a bit better speed for cheaper $$$

If i go adsl2 would i need a new router?

Any info about iiNet drop us a email mpasini@staff.iinet.net.au or send us a PM on here.

Can run some checks on your line and let your know if your line can handle ADSL2+ and on avg what speeds you may be able to acheive.

The Domus Apartments on Hay street have access to VDSL. Connection speeds of up to 80 MegaBits per second have been seen.
