not really no, optus charge $9.99 for tethering fee's (although this can by bypassed) but still you will chew your bandwidth up fairly quick using the iphone as a modem.

For me it does. I was about to buy a wireless broadband package, instead I can just use my Iphone (no need to buy a modem), utilise the 1 gig of data I don't use in my plan and purchase additional data if need be.

I got the tethering to work on my phone, and must say its pretty damn quick! Especially compared to using 3G on the Iphone.

Just add on some data useage, I'm sure you can do it with Vodafone.

I have 1 gig in my cap, and with Optus can add another 6 gig for $45 a month, which should be fine for all browsing / song downloading needs.

TeleChoice in the city is selling them from 7am, you can pre-book one today if you're quick.

Around $1130 "pre-paid" for the 32gb, from Vodafone.

Not that expensive when you salary sacrifice it, and if you have a current device thats worth something (like a Crackberry or even a 3G iPhone), you can sell that to recoup.
