If you have Telstra Copper infrastructure then ADSL with any provider will be possible, as long as they don't user Fibre anywhere between the exchange and your socket for your line.

Ok just did some reading on this velocity stuff

interesting..

Telstra is opening itself up for another shafting by the ACCC big time, along witht he property developer of these estates, as they're removing your choice of company, and the deals like every other telstra deal is twice the price and half the data/features of anyone else, plus from the reading done thus far they wing out the old chestnuts of needing STB's for your teles, and bigpond only routers etc, which to a tech savvy person won't be an issue as they'll say get stuffed, but to a non tech, they'll get sucked in by it...

its 1995 all over again

chances are if they are laying fibre they wont bother with copper. So its either cable or something else. ADSL wont be offered as an option.

I like to lay cables... they are bigger and browner than Telstra's.

Without even looking at the plans, I'm guessing that that despite it being a fibre connection which could deliver nice speeds like, 100Mb/100Mb, Telstra are being dickheads as usual and rate limiting it to 20Mbps/1Mbps (Which is attainable on copper), and ripping you off on data as well.

Piss poor.

Yeah just read that myself.
I also am building in a smart community. Our developer is giving us $1500 credit on our Telstra account, so hopefully that will cover us until telstra opens it up.

If your building a new house in a new development with velocity, you should also get a credit, although it depends on the developer.

There is definitely no copper in the smart communities. You are forced to go with Telstra at this stage.

Hey Sleepy I also thought The $1500 was good until i read the part about
the $1500 only gets credited around the 3 bill and you HAVE to connect
with 2 of their services for a minimum of 12 months.
