I wonder if there will be any kind of buy back system, much like when they made certain types of guns illegal.

It would be very unfair to change something that is legal to illegal status and to basically give people expensive paperweights (though when was the last time the govt. was fair )

Hey guys.

I'm an ex-victorian where these are banned (now living in Perth). I have a detector. If they get banned over here, the bad news is that the cops will no doubt use 'radar detector detectors' which when they catch you with their radar, it tells them if you were using a radar detector....so the 'grab and stash' method won't work unfortunately. I know that Bell tell you that these detectors are stealth and cannot be seen by police...I know from experience that they can.

Government money would be better spent setting up road blocks and checking all holdens and fords for roadworthiness and the drivers for licence checks.

It will be interesting to see the wording of the actual law.

eg. It is an offence to use any device which will warn the driver when approaching
a speed detection device.

I got news... If you use a television and watch the news to see where the
speed cameras are, you just broke the law. You used your television to warn
you about a speed camera you will be approaching the next day...

Interesting...

I borrowed a radar detector for the double demerits weekend. Went through 3 radars and i noticed them before the detector did. Wat im trying to say is that looking out for radars can b just as good as a detector. Ive gotten 2 speeding fines and all have been from cops not radars.

Frankly im rather unimpressed with how the govt deals with this sort of law.

I love the SWS function on my radar detector.

I might look into ripping out the diodes in my radar detector now and mounting it inside the engine bay.

PS.. does anyone have any info on the which laser gun manufacturer WA police use or model number...

So how do cops define a radar detector?

What if you disabled the detection part & just used it for SWS? What about if you had one on your dash that didn't work at all.. would that be illegal.

How do firearm laws work? if you own a gun but it doesn't work is that illegal. What about if you filled in the barrel & removed the pin, is it then a replica? Bit of a tangent but the same type of logic.

They will do like the east does, if its in your vehicle, plugged in or not, you will be fined.
