Organizing a motorsport event
Hi Guys
Me and couple of my mates are thinking of organizing a timed motorsport event at AHG(RAC now). We have been told we need to get a permit from the Australian Auto Sport Alliance before we can hold the event, and also all participants need to have a club licence. Does anyone know how much roughly the permits are? and also what they meant by club licence? Has anyone ever organized such an event? All information will be greatly appreciated!! CHEERS!! |

Well first thing you get in contact with AASA:
http://australianautosportalliance.com/aasa/ Every person competing will need a AASA Club License ($50) or a CAMS L2. You will need to organise and pay for a clerk of the course maybe marshalls or something. You will need to organise a AASA permit and maybe insurance. Given that you don't know about racing licenses, why do you want to do a timed event? Have you gone into AHG/RAC to discuss this with them? Or just called over the phone/email? I'd suggest going in to see them and discuss what you want to organise and the best way to sort out organising it. I'm sure they get a lot of time wasting calls on this sort of stuff.

Simply put it Wont happen unless ur CAMS affliated club.
I tried hard to get a non-tmed event at collie and after jumping through many hoops was able to do so. Plus the cost to do a timed event almost doubles.. Not worth it imo unless ur group has motorsport accreditation to do so..

Everything has to start somewhere =)
Ive spoken to AHG(RAC), they just said we needed AASA permits and club licences. So i went to have a look at the AASA site, They have forms for permits but doesnt say how much it is and also we want to know exactly what this association can do for us exactly. I wouldnt mind going to their office to get a better idea, but it would seem all their offices are located over East and NONE in WA. |

How difficult is it to get CAMS affiliation?

AASA is just like CAMS.
I think more events over east are run under AASA now (Targa Tas for instance). AHG/RAC run their timed events through AASA. You will need to speak to AASA direct to find out what they can organise for you. Although I would have thought speaking to the people at AHG/RAC they would have a ball park indication of costs and could organise it for you for a fee. Maybe that's changed with RAC taking over though...

Ive had a look at CAMS and AASA, they do seem to be similar. But what exactly is the purpose of these associations? Im not to keen on paying an association just for the sake of getting permission so we can all compete in a safe environment.

Oh dear...
What is it exactly that you want to do? If you want a formal, timed event you need to be sanctioned to do this for insurance purposes. This is where CAMS and AASA come in. Drivers need to hold suitable licenses to compete at the level too. Courses need to be checked and ensured as safe for the motor sport event. If you want to just have some fun, book a non-timed skid pan or long track session. As soon as timing comes into play, it is no longer deemed training and you need to have all the backup of a motorsport event.
