Default 8000 speeders detected in 7.5 hours

A single speed camera clocked more than 8000 motorists speeding in about 7 1/2 hours on the Kwinana Freeway this week, with close to 3000 fines expected to be issued because of the operation.
The new digital dual-lens camera was next to the Mill Point Road exit of the freeway monitoring southbound traffic for several hours on Monday and Tuesday.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Michelle Fyfe said yesterday that on Monday, between 8.50am and 11.30am, the camera had monitored 5588 vehicles and found that 3522 had exceeded the 80km/h speed limit.

On Tuesday, the camera measured the speed of 8759 vehicles between 8.50am and 1.35pm and found that 4791 were speeding.

Mrs Fyfe said police expected to issue close to 3000 speeding fines from just over the seven hours that the camera was in operation at that location.
She said that while most vehicles caught speeding were travelling between 81km/h and 90km/h, one driver was doing 123km/h.

Mrs Fyfe said police had been shocked by the big proportion of motorists who were speeding.

"I have never seen such a high incidence of exceeding the speed limit in one (speed camera) deployment," she said. I am shocked. This is appalling behaviour by the road users of WA.

"We're talking about business hours - people driving to and from work. So these are people that have made a conscious decision to exceed the speed limit."

Seriously, is it just me or is Michelle Fyfe a total clueless muppet?

1-9 kph over the limit is within the +/- 10% Speedometer variance allowed under ADR's.

Speed bandwagon GTFO!!!

100 in an 80 zone is deliberate speeding not 81 ffs!

/RANT!

I drive passed that exit everyday, I was too early on Tuesday but on Monday it went off twice in the time it took me to go passed (other cars). I think it went off, it was an orange flash, anyone know?
Everyone starts to pick up speed there as it goes to 100km/h just after that exit, and they would know that....

If such are high percentage of people are speeding, is it the people being reckless criminals with a deathwish or are the posted speed limits a joke which should be raised to suit?

Heard her bitch mouth dribbling shit on the radio too. "That's the speed limit, like it or not, that's what you have to do. Speeding kills."

Well, yeah, that is the limit. Maybe it's time it got looked at to be increased a bit then as surely most drivers feel confident to do more than the posted limit in that section. Those that went through the camera probably saw someone else hit the brakes or get flashed and slowed down.

STOP PLACING CAMERAS TO GENERATE MONEY AND WE MIGHT TAKE YOUR ARGUEMENTS A BIT MORE SERIOUSLY. I can't remember the last time someone died from a speeding related crash (or any accident for that matter) between 8:30am and 11am on the Kwinana Freeway near Mill Point Road........

If speeding kills, how come they sat there watching all those murderers speeding for 2 days?

So 55% of people happily travel above the posted speed limit.

How many accidents occured?

How many fatalities?

Who set this speed limit far below what 55% of the average public seems to be able to drive at? Seems that 90kmh or heaven forbid 100kmh like the rest of the freeway is a manageable speed limit.

I'd like to know how many accidents they had during the same period on that stretch of road. Seeing as everyone was speeding it must have been mayhem.
