utilities in aust is relatively cheap compared to other developed countries
the problem i would say is that a lot of equipment are aging and a lack of urgency in maintaining or replacing them with new equipment will see prices skyrocket very quickly, which tends to pissed ppl off

there's plenty of gas (10% of each gas field treated in WA is ring fenced for domestic gas use). Just not enough (efficient) gas turbines to use it
they are not cheap to purchase, and they do need a fair bit of water for cooling (which is the other problem in WA).

solar is great, but if you're doing it to get the tarriff, then its not sustainable
most ppl will take 10-15yrs to pay off and by that time the efficiency of your solar system would be down to the 20-30% and time to replace
i'll be waiting for the technology in battery cells to improve and putting that solar power into the power packs and use it when i want to and not during daylight

i've got solar now - good deal off an antilag sponsor!

That's the way government works.
Sorting out the squeekiest gears first, then worry about the consequences lait's either not been successi.

If they didn't want people to take up solar in the first place they would have never offered a rebate/buyback scheme in the first place.

I don't know why they are complaining, any energy we are "selling back" they are onselling for a fuckload :-) its either been majorly unsuccessful or a blatent miscalculation by the government.

They didn't do the rebate for the good of us.
They did it to protect the wealth of the state :-)

"People power"

I'm glad to be part of the vocal minority for once, but there is no way that I would have stumped up that much cash 3 years ago without that 10 year gaurantee.

I think they will find that power generated by other peoples infrastructure will be far more cost effective that running their inefficient (money pit) power stations.
Very keen to do this myself. Just need the coin.

Privatization? I don't think so Tim. (Bob)

There are private stations on line as part of the grid, some just built to help sell a coal mine.

Base load, coal is cheap and does do the job, (except maybe nuclear but WA isn't big enough for that)

Peak, well solar can help in summer during the day, but not in the evening, its still quite hot near sun down when solar won't help.

Noted, however was referring more to the mismanagement of government infrastructure contracts. I.e. $250M budget blowout on the Muja upgrade. This alone would cover many years of 40c solar tariffs and a shift to supplemental green energy.

Agree,

After the incident that saw the need for the boilers to be retubed, then was the time to re-review the project, not now after the money has been spent. IMO

ok, after getting many quotes for more panels that ranged from $700 a panel down to less than half that - ive given the work to
Zasco electrical in maddington- best price & service by far.

Zasco Electrical Pty Ltd | Electrical | Gumtree Australia Western Australia - Geraldton Region | 1022014697

they are doing the job now, so if you are thinking of upgrading give Zak a call
