Finished year 12 and deferred going to university for a couple of years so that I could get an advanced diploma under my belt first.
Ended up pulling out of my engineering course when my father required open heart surgery, which was a blessing in disguise as all my life I have been told what I had to do. Had a job doing mineral ore processing, was great fun and long hours but I didn't mind doing it, actually made me want to go back to university to study extractive metallurgy. Left that place after 3 months due to my contract not being renewed and ended up working at Wooldridges for the back to school period. Eventually I found an advert for a drafting traineeship at a certain power utility and got the job. 4 years later, I'm still there, I'm not doing drafting but doing a field based role (commissioning) and working with great people. When you find a job where you learn something each day and don't want to go home because your having too much fun, then its a great place to stay for a while ![]()

The best job will be something you are passionate about. You need something that gets you out of bed every morning, whether it is because you are a surgeon saving lives, a lawyer putting scum in jail, working in a family business to give your family the best they can have or selling yourself on a street corner because you love to root.
Don't look at others and want to be like them, don't look at just chasing money. If you don't enjoy it, you'll never get ahead and make the big bucks. If you enjoy it and are good at what you do, the rewards will come. I was told I had to do medicine at school. Glad I won an engineering award and changed my preferences for uni. I would love to continue my 10+ year uni career, but the pay sucked ![]()

Travel.
Escape the rut & clear your head. Time away from all the everyday things that affect your decision making (whether you realise this is happening or not...it is) and you'll return (or perhaps not) with fresh ideas and renewed motivation to find something/somewhere that appeals to you on all the right levels. As Kato said, in a job you enjoy you'll never work a day in your life & the rewards will come.

I graduated highschool after not doing my TEE because I couldn't be fucked. Went to TAFE for 6 months doing IT, but it was heading more into graphic design and not website design and general IT shit, and I was smoking way too much weed for my liking, so I left. I was working during high school from 14 at Bunnings and still there during TAFE, so I got a full time gig paying casual rates at Bunnings until I was 18 and a half, then I decided to try find a proper full time 'career' so I applied to a 'traineeship' ad in the paper for Survey Drafting for a small company. Got the job, progressed through some basic training and became a senior drafter there after 4 years, and doubled my income in that time, but felt I had exhausted everything I could, so I moved companies to where I am now, and where I have been for the last 4 years. I currently still do survey drafting, but this company gave me the opportunity to learn to do surveying, which I do often, and also learn how to do GIS (Geographical Information Systems - making maps basically) I don't love it, my ideal job is to take and sell photo's but that is a long way away, or to own a vehicle retail store and import parts from Japan.. but that's been done to death! One day I'll just buy a business and live off the profits I hope!!

Well while those slogans must be really embarrassing for you Kym, I've decided that, helpful as my last post about snipers and pastry chefs was, I should add some more.
If you want to get an understanding of what you're really up for with your Miss Mechanic job, go out and work with someone. Do it for FREE if you want. In fact definitely do it for free; no-one's going to say 'buzz off' when the hot girl who likes getting her hands dirty and is working there for free accidentally drops the wrench. You wouldn't fire her, would you Doug?? Doug--> ![]() ![]() ![]() ....................^ KB.....................^Tino (hanging around, waiting to give "don't worry, we all fuck up" hug/feel-up) You'll get real-world experience and I've gotta say that my later-high school work experience at various print houses/design firms really helped me understand what I was getting in to (an average-paying, high-stress industry ![]()
