I always wanted to work with animals and chose my TEE subjects specifically to give me a good chance of getting into Vet Nursing. Bring diagnosed as legally blind just before my 16th birthday put a downer on that and I was told by my career counselor from the Vision Impairment service that working with injured animals when you have limited vision is not a safe idea.

I had a Social Worker from the Association for the Blind who encouraged me to attend career expos. One expo I attended had info on Social Work degrees. I had always had an interest in helping people and been outspoken about Human Rights and I guess I admired my caseworker too. So I made the decision to apply to study Social Work at uni. Winning an accommodation scholarship made my decision easy and I'm now 5 years out of uni and earning the $$$s.

I just work with a different sort of animal to what I originally wanted

well my number 1 goal would be to become a vet, but getting in even with all the different pathways is the hardest bit not having done TEE.
But then again, not getting in doesnt mean there arent other things i couldnt do, i'm a very skilled diverse person and would be capable of doing alot, just getting in and getting started is the hard part.
Pay is not a main concern like alot of people have said is normally a entry point for people, as long as I enjoy what I am doing otherwise thats where im sure things end and become another job hunt

What about Vet Nursing? 2 year TAFE course only need to have finished Year 12 and they do all the hands on care. The vets just diagnose and operate mainly.

I got in 2 yrs in a row and didnt go for it because of my money situation, got a house etc. applied for the third year, but didnt get in because there were too many applicants. am looking into other pathways like doing the cert 3 for a short period then change over to cert 4 but just have to wait for midyear entry to open, and even then they might not be offering it for semeter 2 this year.
so i am just going to have to wait for now, and do a bit of background research if thats where i end up heading.

Sounds like you have a bit of a plan, so thats a start.

While its all nice and fuzzy getting a job doing something you love, you have to have a sprinkle of reality too, thus considering something that offers good employment oppourtunites and a good wage is needed. Sad but true.

I wanted to be a pilot and go to the Australian defence Force Academy. Good luck with that. You really do have to be the best to make it down that road thinking everyone gets to fly FA-18's... So opted for Engineering, in particular, Mining Engineering. Full employment, good money from the get go and pretty good work/life balance. (I pretty much work week on week off).

Luckily, I got my shite together early and did the right subjects in high school, to get into engineering. Its not my passion but it funds my leisure activities, which is what you work for right?

Hospitality for me Currently work at the Duxton Hotel.
Why?
I love talking to people, theres never a dull moment for me, and you always experience something interesting when working in Hotels
Also, you get to drive some really nice cars.
Audi R8 anyone?

It's also an industry that I personally think would never die, theres work to be done 24/7, flexible hours, and half decent pay, for a job I actually enjoy.
