iPhone replacement opinions?
Looking to replace my brick (aka iPhone 3G...old school), couldn't be bothered with a new iPhone. Few options at the moment are HTC Desire HD, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc & Motorola Defy.
Keen to go with Android & not Windows mobile etc. Refuse to go with Telstra. Don't want to spend more that $50/month on a cap plan. Storage space for songs etc isn't a biggie - will get mp3 player anyway. Has to have WiFi though. Anyone got one & can give an opinion? |

See if anyone will sell you a Nexus S.
Personally Telstra is the only option for mobiles at the moment if you want to make a call or use data. Optus and Vodafone are buckets of fail.

I personally would steer very far away from a Galaxy S. It has a lot of problems with the filesystem being quite slow, have a peek at http://www.google.com.au/search?sour...y+s+filesystem and you'll get a vague idea.
HTC Desire HD would be best in my opinion, however the new Nexus S certainly seems 'prettier' and the specs appear to match up quite well. There are a few 'fixes' out for the Galaxy S lag issue, ie: http://project-voodoo.org/lagfix but I've heard very mixed responses to it. Edit: I know a few people with the Galaxy S, and be prepared to wait 20mins for the GPS to lock on

I bought my HTC Desire HD last November and it is everything I want. The iPhone 4 whilst extremely popular is still very much locked down and turns me off. Android 2.2 does everything (did I already say that) that I need and want. The camera takes sparklingly (that's not a real word) crystal clear and colourful pictures that I wonder why I bought a digital SLR. It seamlessly switches from phone radio to wifi when within range of an access point that you have previously set. Also comes with a Navigation and a Car Panel application to do the job of an in-car sat/nav. Not used mine for music but then never have. Syncs with my Google GMail, contacts and calendar effortlessly too. Price has come down a fair bit since I bought it.
