Reminds me of when I was in South Africa and we drove past literally hundreds of piles of tyres on fire. I asked why were they burning them - they said to get the steel belt to sell as scrap steel. Same thing with grave plaques in the UK - people stealing them to melt down for scrap. Kinda sad state of affairs really.
