Why is everyone saying 300hp is difficult to achieve?
280hp on a VF is pretty normal. Squeezing out that extra 20hp isn't too hard especially when the engine is out for a conversion. 300hp in a GC is epic too. Personally, I'd just run it as is for now and enjoy the factory power. Factory RA is a good thing!

How do you sqeeze out another 20hp easily? Mine has 270 from a vf37 at 23psi. Running spec c block and heads. I dont think its easy at all to sqeeze out more.
Plus 240-270 is more than enough to be a crazy fast car.

Yup. Totally agree. Why I dislike the whole 'I am doing this to achieve X hp' as it never ends up satisfying people.
I was just saying 300hp isn't some magical mega number. I've done 310hp on a stock EJ205 with a VF34, so it is a pretty achievable figure. I just can't see why there are so many posts going 'omg you need a mega build for 300hp' yet there are so many people at that hp figure +/- 10%.

Ahh ok. Yeah 300 isnt a crazy number. But to get it reliably you would at least want a 2002 207 and td05 20g turbo. VF34 blowing 300hp would be in its upper region wouldnt it?

A P20 rear helps it get there a little easier.

1.6 bar for me, so no, plenty of headroom.

I'd be leaving it as a 270-280HP conversion, but strip as much weight out of it as you can.. its an RX conversion, it doesn't need any niceties such as sound deadening, stereo or a/c. Just rip it all out and get the weight down
That's the most reliable "power gain" (or power to weight gain if you want to get technical) you can achieve IMHO. Last edited by BALISTC; 22-01-2013 at 09:54 AM. |

I remember way back when it was 300hp at the flywheel - that was the official number for a GrpA rally car (GC8) and that was plenty to smoke the tyres.
I think it has now become the "magical" number for mid level builds to make it at the wheels. If you have driven a GC8 with a genuine 300hp ATW you would realise that 300 is more than reasonable and plenty to get you into trouble
