Default Robot vacuum cleaners

Ok, I live in a house of mainly guys, and it's hard to get housework done.

I've heard of these things a bit, but I want to know if they are actually practical and will be able to vacuum the whole house.

Does anyone own one? Kinda wanting recommendations, and advice on what they can/cannot do.

At the moment I've been considering a couple off eBay:

Robotic vacuum (Aus)

iRobot Roomba (US)

Heard good things about the iRobot. I also know they do a wet/dry one but it is $800 at Retravision.

John - most house alarms have a buffer zone between the ground and 40cm high for example, which can be adjusted, to allow for pets (cats, dogs etc...) or will only detect things over a certain weight - ie: a person from 50kg upwards.. allowing your 25kg labrador to run around as he pleases... if you get robbed by an annorexic though, you have a problem..
