the speed camera will only cover lanes heading away from the box, so for example, on the riverside drive one near the bell tower, only vehicles heading west will be done for speeding (so heading towards the narrows bridge / freeway entries) however, if you run the redlight in any direction you will be photographed / filmed.

I heard from someone at work who's friend works for the fines inforcement centre (I know, dr's neighbours sisters dog.. blah blah), that there isn't enough people employed to go through all the footage that is being captured, and that they only have time to look at about 1hrs worth of footage taken per camera per day... That applies for red lights though only I think, speed fines operate the same as a normal speed camera.

Quik question guys, was at a set of lights waiting to turn right, arrow was red for me but was green fr goin straight, I pulled out of the turn right lane and went straight while my arrow was red but the straight light was green... Now because I was the first car at the lights, would I have got done by the camera? It was one of the newer ones..

I think u will, 'cause it triggered by the hidden line mounted below the tarmac.

Yep, did exactly the same thing many many years ago. Thankfully got a warning letter noting that my infringement could have been crossing a solid white line.

If you run a red on the opposite side of from where the camera is, pretty sure it will record you, and if it's an 11Mp shot, i don't like your chances.

As mentioned though, it does record 8 seconds of when it goes amber and into red for every light change.

Do you want to try it and let us know i wonder ??
I work for a different department of Downer eng, but we have a bloke that did 5 years in signals division. Im sure he knows all about this stuff, and where each one is excactly as he used to have to install some of them. Ill see if he knows how they work but im pretty sure there are induction coils in the road bases used to detect load. These help the traffic lights determine if there is a car waiting or not, especially when they are in priority mode at night. The red light camera uses these induction coils, when a light goes yellow the camera arms. Once the light is red, it uses the initial induction coil into the intersection as an activation and happy (or unhappy) snaps your picture.

The speed camera however i am not sure about. Wouldnt you say it would use the same technology as a multinova? Shoot a beam and wait for the reflection to determine if someone is speeding. Id have to ask i spose.
