Nice work Rossco. I used to fish Bream on lures HARD way back. My Heartland Z is sitting here gathering dust

Do you frequent the Breammaster forum at all?

This is my PB... 2003 I think?
48.5cm / 1.8kg

On that same morning I lost a probable 2kg Bream. Sighted it, had it a few feet from the bank, but it did a 180 degree turn and actually snapped my hook clean at the bend (I had a witness!)

Does that species of herring have a particular name?

As I'm assuming its the King George equivalent of Sand Whiting?

elops machinata = Giant Herring, they grow to 10Kg

the ones in the photo's range from 8-9 kg.

Some were caught on lures (40lb braid) & some on fly gear (12 weight)

For every one landed you'd get smoked by three or four......I was buying 500m rolls of fins braid....Awsome fun though...These things are one of the fastest fish in the sea, fast enough to melt drag washers in Abu baitcasters!!

P.s not edible due to tiny bones though their flesh...All catch & release.

I miss Onslow!!
