Default Ir dslr

I'm new to the whole IR side of things. Can anyone tell me how much a conversion could cost? What's involved? And generally are you happier with your B&W images (seems to me that they are richer in contrast and generally better looking than non IR cameras). I'm assuming it's not possible to do colour images on IR cameras??

I was looking at the IR images in a UK photo magazine today (Practical Photography) and they look pretty awesome. The Hoya R72 is from $41 - $211 on ebay (depending on your size) so its not that expensive.

I might buy a filter and have a play

Enjoy out of focus images. Without fail you will turn the lens out of focus while trying to screw the filter on. The filters are that dark that you must pre-focus the camera before attempting to attach the filter.

Better off going for a conversion, or spending $300-400 and buying a glass IR drop in filter from B&H.

one of the best cameras to do a conversion on is the D70 (if you can get your hands on one).

used you can find them for about $400 - $600 and the conversion is what craig mentioned. There's also the option of DIY and which costs about $150.

don't do the screw on filter route.. that's for noobs

^^ as above with IR hoya filter focusing/exposure metering won't work, so best to do a conversion. Mind you haven't found anything cheaper than around $300 to convert a 350d/400d to IR only.

Has anyone tried the photoshop IR filter?
