My first play around with manual settings on new camera. Over-exposed and taken gamma away from image to gain effect. I'm only a beginner so more to come, enjoy...

Shot with Canon PowerShot SX10 IS (images scaled down alot)

I've been messing around in photoshop with this picture. I am trying to get a really dramatic effect with the clouds to make it look like a big storm is brewing.
I have used the dodge and burn tools to darken the clouds and lighten sections of the car to make it stand out. Any suggestions or comments welcome.

Dodge and burn are just the 'finishing touches' tools. Use layer masks...and levels to generate the clouds you're after. Also b&w gives much better stormy effect IMO. Add blue tint photo filter for some extra cold effect.

also the two wooden poles sticking out of the roof of your car a bit distracting

My first attempt at photographing lightning. (from tonight)

Not the best ones, I know, besides finding a better spot (so no powerlines or pole in my way as well as street lights) and the need to clean my lens, any good tips on improving the photos?

Looks good mate. Drop your ISO to get rid of some of the noise. Also, make your aperture smaller so you can extend your exposure time and catch more bolts.

To be honest I quite like the power lines - Gives the photo an industrial sorta look.
