An ECutek 3 reflash of a my99/00 would probably cost on par with a brand new Power FC with hand controller and a tune. However with the Power FC you'll get a better overall ECU with a hand controller for sensor readouts. I know which I'd prefer.

Just tell her the car's a bargain and selling cheap because it still needs a couple of grand spent on it. That way you're covered when you start spending money on it. Also emphasize that everything your buying will help pro long the life of the vehicle/ make it safer.

The power FC cost 1500 off ebay. If your lucky you can find them second hand for 1000. But they are getting hard to find. It took me a while to get mine.

there's no variation of Power FCs in terms of where it's made, Obviously they are made in Japan...
I ran my car with a FMIC and a VF23 w/o an aftermarket ECU for too long that it sucks everytime i drove it.
Go do yourself a favour and get a proper ecu. Judging by what it has, ie: FMIC, VF34, walboro fuel pump, 440 injectors. Don't u realise what is holding u back is just an ECU and a tune?

ScoobyGez,

dont run those mods with a stock ECU. the 99/00 Ecu isnt know for its adaptive ability, so you will run the risk of popping your engine.

As people have mentioned, a power FC or V5 Link will suit your car. power FC's are about $1000 secondhand, and links are about $600.

i got my 99 with a V5 link tuned through ASG for $380, so really cheap.
my car has 180,000kms on the 205, has a VF34, STI Y pipe, Silicone intake, K&N CAI and 3" exhaust and ran a 245hp. my dyno print is on the Horsepower page if you want to look.

Modding doesnt have to be expensive!

good luck, Steve.

PS
Ive got a tuning cable (to hook to a laptop) for a V5 link if you wish to borrow it for a basic tune, then you can drive it carefully to a tuners.
