What do you mean have the new cams Russ? I bought them specifically for this build. Either way we ran them in according to the sheet that came with the cams.

I have been a cheap fuck for now & have got a bolt in Cusco cage. I know it's no where near as good as a full weld in, but I figured it will offer some protection in the event of an accident at Barbagello coming up. The full cage is on the cards after September.

Cheers Mark, good to see you today mate.

I went for the first proper drive in the car today & with Ray @ the wheel & me punching numbers into the laptop, we saw the turbo spooling earlier than my old 2.0 ltr with the TD06. Boost starts coming on around 3800 rpm & hit the wastegate lift pressure of around 7lb by around 4600. So stoked, I really did not think it would spool up so quick. It should hit 30lb by around 5200 I think , hopefully I get in on Monday / Tuesday for a proper dyno tune

So,

More of an update. Yesterday was "run in tune day" on the dyno. A couple of things need attention, namely boost control was the big issue & a small oil leak, which I found later to be my stuff up (allegedly). it may have been the dyno vibrations that made the catch can drain to sump fitting to come lose...

The boost issue still has me scratching my head, cut it basically goes like this....

The car went there on wastegate only pressure, which as we tested it with a pressure gauge before install, was around 7lb. This coincides with the MAP pressure on the dyno sheet making a small level off around this pressure, before climbing to 10 ish lb. This tells us that the 40mm gate is not big enough in its physical gas flow rate, to enable it to control 7 ish lb of boost, with the turbo I have. This is not a problem though, as the intention is to run big boost levels... So no problem mechanically I don't think...

Once we had got all the AFR's where we wanted them, both on & off boost, we thought we should bump up the pressures to around 15lb for the first tune. I hooked up the Grimspeed 3 port (MAC) valve and we punched in some numbers, to control the boost solenoid from the ViPec at hopefully around 15lb. Boost cut was set @ 21 psi as a safety factor. We started the run & had to bail on it as it was not controlling the boost at all. It hit 20lb by around 5000rpm & was still heading North at a quick rate.

I am going to hook up a manual boost T this morning to see if I can mechanically get it to control at 15 psi & if I can, I am then going to hook up my old school Greddy, simple as ABC boost controller & try to get it to work electronically, albeit, bypassing the ECU as the controller.

At only 10lb, we managed just shy of 300hp. We can also see that the turbo starts coming on quite nicely from as low as 3200 rpm & that it makes power all the way to 8500 rpm. The torque falls off a bit after 6300 rpm, but I think with some AVCS tuning, we may be able to correct this.

I need to sort out this boost control issue & then I will get back on the dyno again.

Dyno sheet

Well I just put on the boost T and got it upto 15 lb no worries & held there until redline. Time to look at putting the Greddy controller on I think & see what it does
