All props to Cat, she has my respect for sticking to her guns and I hope it turns out to be a monster. But from speaking from experience, she should have started with a better base or choice of transplant.
The Bug-Eye has grown on me... it is however a love-it or hate-it style

Subaru Brumby + 02 STI = Winning

They weigh f#ck-all and are super-sleeper-spec...

I still don't understand why everybody's saying "well done"?? For what?? Spending 10-15k on turning this average RX into a below average WRX? ? TJ was right.. once this is over we'll be in 04 STI territory. This is like giving Julia Gillard a boob and nose job, and a revirgination operation. . We all know underneath it's still a worn out saggy red mess.

I hear what you are saying. I know I would have left my 2004 WRX and bought a 2002 WRX STI if I could go back and do it again, or I wouldn't spend $6K on my DC2 for a Type R conversion and saved it for my next car...

...but it's cat's choice, her money, her time, her car and I wish her the best of luck with the conversion and can't wait to see the outcome

Cat, speaking from experience here, I know that sometimes you have to build what you want. I started with a bog stock wrx hatch and it has progressed somewhat since I have owned it. I prefer the hatch over the sedan and as such have built what I wanted. We all have our preferences. If the car is what you truly want, do what makes you happy. As already stated, some more subtly than others, be prepared that things come up, and it all costs.

its at this point im going to be a killjoy

I think everyone has covered the fact that this makes no sense to many/lots/most people.
Im getting a little sick of reading constantly that "this will end up costing a bomb" the coulda/woulda/shoulda ideas.

FFS She has purchased a Foz GT Half cut and JWS will be doing the conversion.
She is happy.
Instead of "this is a shit idea etc etc etc" comments can people either not post, PM her, or ( which i prefer) say congrates on the conversion, when will you be on track next?

She clearly isnt going to stop doing what she is doing with her car for a bunch of grumpy old (albeit correct) farts.

TJ and many others have illustrated clearly that it may be a complete waste of money but all cars are.

Mitch, Why didnt you just buy the MY11 STi instead of a silver WRX to start?
TJ, Why buy 300,000,000 cars and modify them then flog them off 2 weeks later?
Russ, why spend all your money on the foz to then buy the wagon? why not go buy it off abdus straight away?
Riggs, Why bother building a GC that is 12yrs old already into something essentially is still a 12yr old car?
Hell, why even bother with the GC when both bikes are more capable than the car?

Guys, we have spent money on ours cars irrespective of what may have been the correct choice at the time.
Logic says we shouldnt bother with having 2 cars, playing racecars with one and having a heap of shit daily because we should all be buying property and waiting 10yrs then rolling in AMG's M3s etc etc etc.

Cat, awesome stuff with the car. a conversion will create a whole other level which youll get to experience on track and (safely) on the streets. At least you have a sweet car detailing pack to make it uber shiney once its complete.

Dave, fair call.. my answer is simple, and essentially what others have said to cat. I realised that before I wasted more money attempting to make an 08 WRX as fast as an STI, I might as well just buy an STI. But hey, fuck it.. I could've wasted more money on my old WRX trying to make it faster, or look better, but I didn't... I took people's advise. But that's me... crazy shit I know.

This thread has turned me into a grumpy old man.. In a way I would love to see Cat prove me wrong by doing this build well
. But on the other hand you have different fingers, and at the end of the day it is certainly night.
