That sucks mate...but no blame anywhere as you were informed and aware of where that was going all along.

It will only get better from now on with the car but not so much the bank balance, think of the end result and see the bright side.

What end result? He is replacing parts with run of the mill non performance enhancing bits?
Heads create power
Cams create power
displacement creates power

The list goes on - pulling pistons (and maybe rods as per his post) and sticking new ones in will make 2/5ths of fuck all difference. This is called a refresh not a build

Its a build.
A refresh is changing rings, bearings and gaskets and possibly a very light de-glaze hone.

If he's putting in new pistons its a build.
And pistons can make more power especially if comp ratios change.
You'll also get fuck all power without the strength to cope with it. So a fair bit more difference than 2/5ths of fuck all I'd say.

There's been enough bagging on this thread without adding BS statements like that.

Gordon are you planning on doing the rods? Your post suggests maybe doing them, or did you mean maybe manley rods? I've been told they are essential if you're aiming to make decent power/torque.

Good luck with the build.

oh please get off the high horse, replacing the pistons is fuck all, highly doubt the comp ratio is being changed and rods (currently optional) unless he is changing the stroke ad strength.

I hate to tell you Daz but you aren't actually the be all and end all of subaru modification - what you are doing IS impressive and is very well thought out but call a spade a spade - forged pistons do not = and "built" motor.

So my comment stands the minor work noted for the engine "build" will most likely equate to 2/5ths of fuck all in end result for actual performance gains

Be all and end all? WTF

I'm just a bloke in his garage at home mate. I know my way round these cars that's all.

I've built a few 10 second cars but I'm certainly not claiming to be a WRC guru.

But even I know once you get into swapping pistons (which if done like it should be requires a hone to suit for proper piston to wall clearance) then you're way beyond "refresh" territory. Anyone that puts drop in forged pistons into an EJ25X motor especially as most of them will be out of round with a few thousand Kms on them does not know what they fuck they are doing. It looks like you fall into that category.

Lol at idiots arguing over the definition of the term 'build'.... really? Dont you have anything better to do like go hand in your centerlink job search sheets or something?

Ill clear this up so there is no confusion.

Merely assembeling the motor technically constitutes a "build".
