tried the megs ultimate wash and wax last week. left the car feeling waxed and the final water rinse beads from the wax in the wash liquid.
next step to get some swirl-x and get rid of the spider-webbing. then I will be happy. Anyone know a really good wax for leather seats? My brother had some used for saddles and it was made from bees wax. Went on and kept the leather soft and moist but did not feel greasy. Recommend away.....

Just thought I add my journey to this thread,
I used turtle, kittens, Nu Finish and of course Armorall when I first got into cars then Mothers to Meguiars polish and wax and back to Mother products which I still like and believe it a good product. Thanks to the computer and the magic search button I came across Clay bar, Swissvax products’(which I cannot justify) and Auto-Glym and lucky enough to be at a professional car detailer open session. 1. To get were I am now, pressure clean, always wash with a new sponge each wash, with 2 buckets, 1 with Auto-Glym bodywork shampoo or Meguiars soft wash gel car wash and the other bucket with clean water to rinse, pressure clean off then chamois in the garage, again 2 buckets of water, dirty/rinse & clean. For the deeper scratches Meguiars scratch X , then the clay bar, Then Auto-Glym polish with micro polishing rags and then sealing with Auto-Glym High definition wax and do not move car for two hours or so. This is my base. 2. A total of four times in a 12 month period - I used the Auto-Glym High definition wax. After step1 the other three times that I applied the Auto-Glym High definition wax, I pressure cleaning, washing with no more than 9 drops of Johnsons and Johnsons baby oil(as other chemical will remove the wax that I lay as my base) in one bucket, pressure clean off, chamois in garage then applying the Auto-Glym High definition wax. 3. Now I am at the stage were the car needs a wash I just pressure clean, wash with 9 drops of Johnson and Johnson baby oil(new sponge each wash and the two bucket system),pressure clean off, chamois in the shade, done!!!!. 4. I always sofen all my rubbers seals trim with Auto-Glym vinyl & rubber care, if you have an old car with faded rubber I swear by Auto-Glym bumper & trim gel( made my 205GIT mouldes look like new) and McGuire exterior trim detailer coating spray in the engine bay, I have blue seat which I have used Auto-Glym interior shampoo which worked very well removing a small stain and not fading the colour. 5. Always wash the micro polishing rags with liquid detergent not powder. 6. I have spent a fortune on cleaning chemicals in the past, all products are easy to use and apply. This is the most cost efficient way with less chemicals for me. Most importantly don’t look at it as a chore, its protecting and enhancing you investment. |

Detailing ideally should be done 12 monthly, giving it a thorough clean & paint correction if needed. During the year it should be washed as often as needed using the correct methods...otherwise your detailing invoice will be that little bit higher from fixing up your stuff-ups.
And using those sponges....while not ideal, if he's only using it once then throwing it out AND doing the 2-bucket method then it's better than nothing. It kills me seeing Dealerships & others re-using old sponges after leaving them in the garage to be covered in dust/dirt. Doesn't mean literally a monetary investment, more along the lines of time & passion invested in the car....which is worthless if it looks like shit. Imagine Tino's car covered in scratches & stained carpets. Nothing worse than seeing a car neglected. |
