Apparently the 3M 1080 wrap has air channels built into it and should not be applied wet..

They use the Avery 900 series and the Hexis brands of Vinyl.

After spending MANY hours with Gav and him carrying out countless jobs for me, I still haven't gotten the knack of putting down vinyl. It's a skill in itself, knowing how the vinyl will react/stretch/form.

You need to heat it to stretch it, but by heating it also shrinks! Also need to heat it once it's been layed down to allow the vinyl to set (it has no memory once heated).

It's an art to do properly (hence the 3-4 year apprenticeship). The proper Auto wrapping vinyl does make it easier (has the build in anti-bubble stuff).

Like others have said, go to Gav at GT Graphics.
Master of the craft. I saw him wrap an entire Ferrari 360.

While taking part in this discussion I have stubbled across plasti dip which also looks interesting for a semi-perm/easily reversed finish.
Also scored an offer for a free bonnet wrap!

4 year apprenticeship to do vinal wraps? Really? Doubt it. You don't need to be a pro to do it. Plenty of people all around the world have done it themselves. Give it ago. Its tough but not impossible.
