Megs, don't talk to your insurance company and try and arrange a deal, when it comes down to it, they are a business and they are there to make money. Give that number i gave you a ring on monday, talk to them about what happened they will be able to give you and answer, also their word is law to insurance companies, if they say they have to pay for the rims too, they have to, it doesn't cost you a thing, the insurance company pays all the fees involved. Basically maybe give it a stab at your insurance company, say something along the lines of "Are you going to pay for my rims as they where in your care? Or shall i contact the insurance ombudsman" if you get no reaction from that, give that number a ring and they will be able to help you further, i don't any reason why its your fault that the rims got stolen in their care. Remember the repair company is working for them, they choose that company, and that argument is between the smash repairs and the insurance company.... Good luck

Thumbs down

Sorry JDM, issues are still on going with them so I'm not posting till satisfied with their work.

Panel and Paint work from them is 100%.
Its everything else including customer service that is frankly shithouse.
There is a long list and it will make interesting reading.
RAC are fully aware.

Won't say anymore and I would appreciate it if you mention nothing to your mate either until my issues are resolved.

Cheers.

Default Ombudsman called in.

Dad spoke to Just cars got know where... when i got home he was still on the phone to them so i got on the phone and she told me i had to make a claim for it to be investigated. WHAT A JOKE! So i told her no way am I going to put a claim in, told her I'd be investigating it further. The guy thats dealing with my original claim, conveniently is not working today after he said he would be.

This is a bit suss, when i made the original claim i enquired whether it would be worth stopping the insurance, they made a BIG deal about not stopping it. Lucky I didn't at this stage.

Called the ombudsman... Dad had a good long chat to him, basically they have no leg to stand on if;
A) the smash repair place had an inadequate security system.
or
B) the car was not secured properly.

I've got them on both accounts. They told me the security system was old, and that it didnt go off, and that when the phone plug was pulled out the security firm did not call the owner. My keys were left in the car with the pincode nicely attached to the keyring, therefore not secured properly.

The police should have the full report on all of the above, they will also have details on whether the place has been regularly broken into.

They told Dad that I should make the claim... but under protest and that i want it fully investigated. The tyres and rims are not to be fitted until they absolutely need them... I'm going to request that they be delivered to my house. Because if they get stolen again... I'm up for another claim, same thing if the actual car gets stolen... up for another claim.

Insurance companies are not going to insure me with so many claims made within such a short period of time, my no claim bonus is going to be affected.

I'm pretty damn annoyed

I'd be making very sure that if any of you make a claim, or even put the car in a workshop overnight that you check that the company has a fully comprehensive insurance policy, on their workshop.

I thought a decision by the obudsman was legally binding for the insurance company ?

Oh and btw got a quote from JCI for the new car and the PDS states replacement for non-oem or possibly second hand only applies to vehicles that are out of the new car warranty so thats most of us

Went with RAC

PS: Keep fighting them... like you say you have them on 2 counts of being negligent when it comes to their security, they may as well have left the front door open from the sounds of it.
