I am aware that buying a brand new car means throwing away a bit of money. The thing that appeals to me about a new one other than its shiny is that I dont drive large distances these days as I work away and absilutley guaranteed it hasn't had a hard life.
The car I get I will be keeping for quite a while, so I don't mind spending a bit more if it means getting something with much lower km, better condition. Warrantee is a bonus too.

Get someone to give the slightly older car an epic detail. (not just a wash and wax) and you will have a super shiney car with coin in the pocket!

I had the same dilemma as you when I was looking at buying a Subaru..I was torned between a brand new 2009 WRX or a second hand 2007 Sti..I chose the 09 WRX ...looking back now, I would personally never purchase a WRX again..if I were you, I would look for a 2008 Sti instead with low kms for a couple of grand more...but if you like the sedan, then go for the 07 Sti....the Sti and WRX are worlds apart IMO.

Good luck with your decision though.

I am thinking I really need to go take an example of each for a test drive and see what I think....need to ring insurance too, see what my on-going costs will be.....

I should mention the reason I haven't looked at the 08 sti, is I prefer the sedan shape

You'll find there won't be much difference in insurance cost for the WRX and Sti...maintenance/servicing will also be similar..unless you need to replace your brembos etc but it's well worth it.

You should definitely take the two for a test drive

Sorry miss read thought they were both STi's he was looking at. Quick look on Carsales puts them 70K +/- drive away.

Definitely drive them both and you'll almost certainly settle on the STi. I had no intention of stumping up the extra when I got the piggy until I drove them both.
