In this case, an opinion from someone that has or has had both is needed. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few members on here that can answer it.

Yeah they look much more newer...these models have a 2.5L though, as opposed to 2L...

sorry had to edit my previous post, a v8 commodore is great bang for buck seeing as 350-400hp is very easy to achieve, but personally iwould much rather sacrifice a little power for handeling and braking

Going from a RWD to WRX with similar power to weight, the amazing grip (especially in the wet) of the AWD was the biggest difference I noticed.

Yes but it can be Un forgiving especially if you push a little to hard and go beyond the capability or the driver, awd system and tyres ha ha.i would recommend a skid pan day for you and your new car just to get used to your limits and the limits

So if the '03 isn't really going to be a power upgrade without going an STI, what would the other recommendations be? Sucks that I need to say goodbye to the beloved SS before I get a WRX, but I do want one, I just don't want to downgrade if that makes sense?

Its about power to weight, not just power.

Take one for a drive? Easiest way to find out if you'll be happy with one!

A wrx is an upgrade over an SS in every way. Commodores are Australian made shit boxes. You'll notice the differences straight away! I'd look for an 03/4 sti.

As above drive one as you will see how much better they are over a commodore
