Default launch control- is it ok/safe for your car?

Im wondering if its safe to have launch control?
I know antilag in your daily driver STi will destroy your engine/cat so Im wondering if having launch control will do the same...
Also, anyone who has this, how do you turn it on/off after its unlocked in a tune? Mod the a/c button to act as a switch haha.

Been watching some youtube videos of STis with launch control...drooool :-)

What ecu do you have? I have antilag and launch control on my box, but that's with an aftermarket ecu.

EDIT: Automatically enabled when the vehicle is at a full stop and clutch is engaged.

Mine's on all the time. Stock ECU, as long as the speed signal is zero and the clutch is in the rev limit is 5500 r/min. Let the clutch out (even in neutral and the rev limit returns to normal.
I don't believe it does any harm to the engine, no more than the rev limiter does already except at lower revs. It's not the same as antilag, it just allows you to fully open the throttle allowing the turbo to build up some inertia and flow.
Arguably less strain on the driveline as you can launch with the turbo spooled and on boost rather than using the inertia of the flywheel at considerably higher revs to prevent the engine from bogging down.

I imagine it still would do some damage to gearboxes though Doug? I've ever actually used it ask don't know if 4.11 5 speed would hold up too long

Mine is always active, the same set up as Dougs.

Has to be stopped (0-5MPH COBB US Standard Setting) and it is set to 3500RPM and normally see 4 - 5PSI.

Much easier/faster to get off the line rather then reving to 4500RPM and dumping/releasing the clutch. Even though my ET's did not drop drastically my 60ft times have been slightly quicker and more consistent.

The drivetrain stress would be depending of your driving style: If you bring the engine up to the LC Limiter and release the clutch easing it will obviously last longer then, LC Limiter, dump clutch, profit...

That was the biggest difference for me, the fact that I could be much nicer to the clutch and still go quicker!

Have also been researching this. So basically you can have it enabled on a stock ecu?

I am sure you can. What tuning software are you using?

ECUTEK website advertises Launch Control.

The biggest issue people were having with BEE-R was the excessive heat caused ceramic turbos and turbo downpipe gaskets to have a lesser life span, but that isn't limited to BEE R set-ups. However for every complaint people love the massive snap, crack and pop that it produces!
